Labour councillors in Rotherhithe have launched a petition to save local policing, as the Met Police reject initial proposals for a new local hub.
The Metropolitan Police have been aware for some time that Seven Islands Leisure Centre is due to close as we move to the brand new Canada Water Leisure Centre, and that they will need to move out of their hub.
Labour councillors Stephanie Cryan, Bethan Roberts and Kath Whittam have been working to find alternative sites for the police, and have offered solutions to the Met.
Regrettably the Metropolitan police have not taken up this offer for an alternative site and Rotherhithe is now at risk of permanently losing a local police hub.
Community safety is a major concern, and Labour want to see more of a police presence in the area. We are incredibly disappointed by the Met in this matter and will continue to liaise with them to find a solution.
